Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Bikepacking Wizard app for iPhone and the website bikepackingwizard.com. Both come from Bikepacking Wizard LLC of Bella Vista, Arkansas.
In short
- The app has no account and never asks who you are.
- The app has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
- Your location stays on your phone.
- No personal information is sold or shared.
What the app stores on your phone
Your race plan and settings (race, start date, goal, sleep, and eating and drinking rates), your progress during race mode, the maps you download and the race data updates are stored on your phone. None of it is sent to Bikepacking Wizard LLC. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Location
The app uses your location only while race mode is on. It uses it to show where you are on the course, to compare your progress with your pace, to warn you if you leave the course and to tell you as you near a stop. If you allow location in the background, the app can do the last two while your phone is locked.
Your location is processed on your phone. It is never sent to Bikepacking Wizard LLC or to anyone else. You can turn off the app's location access at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
Notifications
The app's alerts, such as an off-course warning or a stop coming up, are created on your phone. No notification server is involved.
What the app sends over the internet
The app connects to two outside services. Neither connection carries an account, your name, your location or a device identifier.
Race data updates
When you open the app, at most once every six hours, and whenever you tap to check for updates, the app downloads updated race data, such as store hours and course changes, from a server Bikepacking Wizard LLC runs on Cloudflare. Like every internet request, it reaches the server with your phone's IP address and a short description of the phone's software. Cloudflare handles that information under the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Maps
When your phone has a signal, the map's background (roads, terrain and place names) comes from OpenFreeMap, and so do the maps you download for offline use. OpenFreeMap receives your phone's IP address, a short description of the phone's software and the map area requested, and handles them under the OpenFreeMap privacy policy.
Links you tap
A business's website, phone number or directions open in your browser, phone or maps app. What happens there is governed by those apps and services.
Reporting wrong store hours
The app's button for reporting wrong store hours opens a prefilled email in your own mail app, addressed to bikepackingwizard@gmail.com. It holds the race, the stop and the business, the hours the app showed, your predicted arrival and the answer you are disputing, plus the app's version and which race data it was using. It holds no location. Nothing is sent until you send it, and it arrives from your email address like any email. Reports are used only to correct the app's store hours.
Purchases
When the app goes on sale, subscriptions will be sold and billed by Apple. Bikepacking Wizard LLC will never receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple will tell the app only whether your subscription is active.
Crash reports from Apple
If you turn on Share With App Developers in your iPhone's analytics settings, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics for the app with Bikepacking Wizard LLC, in a form that does not identify you. They are used only to fix problems.
If you write to nate@bikepackingwizard.com or send an hours report, your email address and message are used to reply to you. They are kept with the company's email provider, Google, and are never sold or shared.
This website
bikepackingwizard.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other companies. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which receives your IP address in order to deliver the pages.
Sharing
Bikepacking Wizard LLC does not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone. The only outside services the app contacts are Cloudflare and OpenFreeMap, as described above.
Children
The app and the website are not directed at children under 13.
Your choices
The company holds no account or personal data about you from the app, so there is nothing to delete on its side. Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your phone. To have an email you sent deleted, write to nate@bikepackingwizard.com.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the new version is posted on this page with a new date.
